Colombia’s Quinto Mayor is the result of one of the best salsa maestros: Diego Gale. Quinto Mayor embodies a rootsy conjunto style, montuno-driven, salsa band.
In December 2004, the group recorded live at the Teatro Medellin de Jazz the tremendous performance captured on dvd named “Que Viva El Montuno”. For this show, the vocalists Kike Harvey, Carlos Llamosa, Juan David Grajales and Oscar Abueta alternate with soul and bravado. Guest singer Raquel Zozaya, in true Cuban style, belts out a powerhouse version of “Son Para Un Sonero (Sonera Soy).” There are a lot of great tracks Johnny Pacheco’s “Faisán,” Chamaco Ramirez’ “Trucutú,” and Eddie Palmieri’s “Palo De Mango” to name a notable few. ~ Salsa Blvd
