The Happiest Way to End the Year

Officially known as the La Feria de La Cana de Azucar (Sugarcane Carnival), the 'Feria' was inaugurated by the city of Cali, Colombia's leaders in 1957. And like its counterparts elsewhere in the Americas (Carnival in Rio de Janiero or Mardi Grau in New Orleans), Cali's annual event is driven by one thing - music.

Best of all, salsa music.

The Feria, which begins on December 25th and lasts until December 30th, is nothing short than electrifying. Imagine a city springing to life in a vivid wash of lights, people, music and laughter. Ranging from street parades to multitudinous concerts, the Feria becomes the epicenter of worldwide Salsa, providing a context for all of those in attendance to participate in collective displays of friendship, mirth, and exhilaration.

Simply stated, the Feria is five days of nonstop merrymaking, where people have no other alternative than to emerge with a deep fervor for the music of Salsa.
